What happens after you post a report

No queue of days. The first few hours matter most, and the process is built around that.

    The report goes live

    You fill in the details and add a photo. After a short abuse check the report appears on the site and on the map.

    The neighbourhood is notified

    Everyone with alerts on for your province receives your report on WhatsApp. You can also print a search poster straight away.

  3. 3

    Sightings reach you directly

    If someone spots your pet, that report comes to you. Once the animal is back, you close the report with your own code.

Where the database stands today

Right now 212 animals are registered with ChipReaders, 390 animals are reported missing and 167 animals have come home through a report. 31 chip readers in the Netherlands and Belgium can scan an animal that has been found.

Of the 498 closed missing reports, 34 percent were closed because the animal turned up. For the rest, the person who reported never told us how it ended.

Someone with a chip scanner near you

What does it cost to register my pet?

A chip registration costs a one-off 4.99 euro per animal. There is no subscription: the registration stays valid for the life of the animal and you can update the details yourself at any time.

I found an animal. How do I find the owner?

Enter the microchip number on the search page. If the animal is registered with ChipReaders, we alert the owner straight away. If it is not, we also check nine Dutch and fifteen international databases.

Can I look up a chip number without an account?

Yes. Looking up a chip number is free and needs no account. We never show the owner personal details; we contact that person ourselves.

What should I do if my dog or cat goes missing?

Report the animal as missing through your account or the report page. The report appears on the missing animals page, goes to chip readers and vets nearby and can be spread in the area as a WhatsApp alert.

How do I check a chip number before buying an animal?

Use the buyer check. You see at once whether the animal is registered and whether it has been reported missing or stolen, and you can download a PDF of the result to keep with your purchase agreement.
